A Texas Sunset

One of the best things about having kids is that it allows me to be sappy with my own parents again. I haven’t lived near my folks in a long time, and we’d really fallen out of touch with each other over the years. But then the kiddos came along and everything’s changed. Since we don’t get to see them very often, the kids & I try to send little things their way to let them know we’re thinking of them. Not to long ago, we were playing with the mountain of restaurant crayons we have managed to accumulate. This was the end result. Looks just like a Texas sunset – and I feel just as warm and glowy when I see my kids playing with my Mom & Dad.

I hope you find something that makes your heart glow today.

A Not-Quite-Reality Check & A Sweet Dream To Go

3:45 AM. Wide awake! Tears and cold sweat! My Ladybug was having a road-side picnic when a dragon riding a tricycle rammed the back of an old milk truck filled with moonshine and old-school Al Capone style gangsters. The explosion left her grossly disfigured.

And me? I was too spineless to go visit her…afraid that she would see the horror in my eyes when I looked at her…afraid that I wouldn’t love her anymore because she was no longer beautiful. Friends had to drag me kicking and screaming to the hospital to see her. Yep, even in my worst nightmares, I can still manage to make it all about me.

But I did go to see her. She was having a tea party. Her spirit was completely unscathed. The Man and I immediately set to work contacting family and friends – not by phone, but by Pony Express. Our message: “We’d like to take this opportunity to let you know we love and care about you.”

Seriously, Mr. Sandman. Did I really need to see my daughter engulfed in flames to get the point? I got your reality check. I’m going back to bed now. I’d like to order a sweet dream to go, please.
